Instructors/Affiliates

Teresa Bruns is a third degree black belt with over nine years experience in Taekwondo.  She is a member of the State of Iowa Black Belt Association and a vice-president of the State of Iowa Taekwondo Association.

Tom Brotherton, third degree black belt and co-instructor of Algona/West Bend Taekwondo, has over 14 years experience in Taekwondo.  Master Brotherton is certified as an SIBBA Head Instructor and is a member of the State of Iowa Black Belt Association. 

Both instructors have refereed and competed in tournaments, as well as instructed and attended various seminars.  As coinstructors of Algona Taekwondo, their goal is to promote the benefits of Taekwondo as a way of life, a means of self-defense, and an avenue toward mental and physical fitness.

Algona Taekwondo is affiliated with Luverne Taekwondo Association, the State of Iowa Black Belt Association and the USA Taekwondo Union.  The school is associated with Master Wes Grieme, 6th degree black belt; he has studied Taekwondo since 1979 and has been teaching in Luverne MN since 1981 and works with all ages.  Master Grieme is certified by the World Taekwondo Federation and is also a Certified United States Taekwondo Union Continental Referee.  Master Grieme conducts rank advancements up to 2nd Dan black belt in the Luverne Taekwondo club and up to red belt in the Algona and St. Paul, MN club.

 Master Grieme is under the guidance of Master Yong Chin Pak, an 8th degree black belt.  Master Pak is an instructor at Iowa State University, the Iowa delegate for the USA Taekwondo Union and the President of the National Collegiate Taekwondo Association. Master Pak conducts all rank advancements and is a guiding force and influence in the growth of Taekwondo.

Origination

Teresa Bruns and Jeff Politte opened the doors of Algona Taekwondo on December 2, 2002.  On April 6, 2004, the club expanded to West Bend.  The West Bend site closed it's doors in October 2007. 

The club has promoted two students to 2nd Dan and three to first Dan black belt.  Tom Brotherton joined the club in January of 2004 and became co-instructor in the Spring of 2004.
